"My method is inspired by my love for music, especially jazz and improvisation as the tempo, tone and color correlate well to this genre. The paintings are my response to life in our time. They are direct, bold, and unromantic and reflect drastic changes; of life-style, career, place and companions. I think of these paintings as landscapes, or "mindscapes." They are memory pieces and allude to moments in time; a collage of instances, some lingering, some fleeting. The images challenge our illusion of permanence. The cadence is ours. The sound bite era in the eighties established the pace for this dialogue. Its legacy endures through MTV and television advertising, and is perhaps a permanent affliction now. Pace, attention and focus are lastingly altered. Finally, and ironically these paintings demand attention well beyond a first or second look."
